Heron Cottage takes its name from the black cherry braces carved into herons. The cottage was designed as a meditation space and writer’s retreat. It has a spacious yet intimate feeling. The use of naturally curved timbers gives Heron Cottage an organic feeling.

The frame for Heron Cottage was designed to show the woods that are found in New England: red oak, white pine, hemlock, black cherry, and black birch. It has several different types of braces, including a pair of black cherry braces hand carved in the shape of herons.
